The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched India’s largest political portal on the Internet - www. lkadvani.in - for its Prime Ministerial Candidate, Shri L K Advani, on the occasion of his 81st birthday on 8 November, in New Delhi. The portal was be unveiled by Lt Gen (Retd) S K Sinha, the former Assam and Jammu & Kashmir Governor, in the presence of Shri Rajnath Singh, President of the BJP.

While many Indian political personalities have a web presence, none of the current websites match the width and depth of Shri Advaniji’s portal in the richness of content, the range of interactivity, and visual appeal. The portal has about 150 videos, over 300 photographs and more than 700 pages of properly categorised textual content. More importantly, this is the only website of a political leader which is available in two languages: English and Hindi.

The portal provides a comprehensive portrait of Shri Advaniji’s long and illustrious political life spanning nearly six decades. It presents his views on various national issues, his articles, interviews and accounts of his campaign trail across the length and breadth of the country. For the benefit of the media - national, regional as well as international - the portal provides latest information about Shri Advaniji’s speeches, statements, etc.

The portal is highly interactive. To make this wide range of content easily accessible, the site has integrated Google Search into it. Users can also register online to receive email and SMS alerts of Advaniji’s events. Similarly, volunteers desiring to work on the campaign could submit their applications through the portal. Advaniji is keen to receive feedback from citizens on various policy issues. Therefore, an innovative feature of the portal is a Forum with 22 discussion boards catering to different topics.

Given India’s predominantly youthful demographic profile, it is estimated that there would be 100 million new voters in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. Advaniji’s portal is a part of the BJP’s larger endeavour to reach out to the large and growing section of technology-savvy, first-time voters who intensely desire to see Change in India through Good Politics and Good Governance, ideals that Shri Advaniji both professes and personifies.
